Happy Friday and welcome to the FIRST edition of #FeatureFriday’s. Oh My Decor is a very social site. We are on social media, attend social events and through that we meet very amazing and talented people . #FeatureFriday’s allows me to introduce these talents to you as well.
Our first feature is on a Miami interior designer, Eilyn Cueto President of Funk-E Designs. We met through social media where I fell in love with her work. Her talents have allowed her to be showcased on NBC, CNN and on a special feature segment on E! where she transformed Ben Macklemore’s mother-in-laws home within 72 hours! If that is not talent, then I don’t know what is. Oh, and did I mention she is fabulously fashionable? Let’s get to know more about Eilyn..
How can you explain who Eilyn is?
I’m a designer and a creator who is passionate about aestheticizing the functionality of innovative design. Also, love advocate, pet lover, creative chef, entrepreneur, music lover, fashionista, socialite, shopaholic, chocolate addict, ambitious, philanthropist, perfectionist, but above all Funk-E.

When did you start Funk-E Designs?
After moving back to Miami in 2012, I decided to open my company to provide clients the look and feel of luxury all around the world. Whether you live in Miami, New York, Monaco or in a yacht, Funk-E Designs provides a tailored design to every client.
Where are your services provided?
We are located in the luxurious city of Miami, but cater to clients all over the world.
When did you start pursuing your passion for design?
That’s a tough question. I think you start designing at a young age. Everything from the clothing you will wear to school, to the color you want your room, you begin to design unconsciously as a child. I’d have to say I realized I LOVED to design when I was in college going for a business degree and just found myself observing architecture and interior design student’s work. I thought of how I’d design it or how I would make it better.
What program/where did you attend school?
I began with business administration and then realized I wanted to be a designer. I started architecture and interior design. I moved to Costa Rica at the age of 16 and enrolled in Universidad Latina de Costa Rica where I studied as an international student.
Can you describe your design style?
My Interior Design style is a mix of all styles all while providing luxury and comfort to my clients. I think all designers must have a love for all design styles since there’s something gorgeous and intriguing in all design styles. Like any artist, all colors are beautiful if you know how to work them. I’m a design artist!
What inspires your designs? Where do you look for inspiration?
Each home, each client, and each space inspires me differently. When you meet a client and their property or space, you get a feel of the layout and the possibilities that can be designed in each space. As I get to know my client, they inspire me to reflect their personality in my designs. I want my designs to be a reflection of my client’s life and what inspires them. I want them to step foot in the door and immediately say, “Wow, I absolutely love this!” That’s where my inspiration comes from.
What was your first design job?
My first design job was a very big deal, well to me at least. I met with a multimillionaire investor in Costa Rica that was looking to have his office designed from zero. He wanted a custom design tailored to his style that no one was able to design in 20 years. I gave him 4 proposals, which he could choose from that best fit his style and needs. He was a bit hesitant and asked how I would I ensure he would receive exactly the look I was showing him, so I told him that if it didn’t meet his expectations he didn’t have to pay me a dime, nor have to work with me. Needless to say I was able to give him the look he desired and he was so happy with my work that he became my first and only client while I was still in my 3rd year of college. From that design project, I became his sole designer for his projects including his private residence, restaurants, hotels, stores, supermarkets, gas stations, etc. I gained so much experience and was able to design more than most graduates while I was still in my last year of college.
What is your biggest design accomplishment?
One of my biggest accomplishments was being able to participate as the designer for Macklemore’s Big Surprise, an E! True Hollywood special. To design a home in 72 hours for someone you have never met and a home you’ve never seen could be a major challenge. The fact that we were able to create such a wonderful home in just 3 days for such a loving individual was a major accomplishment in my book, not to mention, being the youngest designer to perform a transformation of this sort for the E! Channel. That’s a mental trophy for me.
That is truly inspiring! From working with a multimillionaire while still in college to being the youngest designer on a national platform is amazing and very motivating. Do you have a favorite quote that you turn to when you need a little motivation? If so, care to share?
“Every morning you have two choices: Continue to sleep with your dreams, or wake up and chase them”
“Chase your passion and money will come. Chase money and you may never find your passions.”
Where can we find you?
Everywhere! I’m everywhere! haha
